What is the CRA Exam?

CRA Exam Content and Format

The Certified Radiology Administrator (CRA) credential is an exam-based certification tailored specifically to medical imaging administration, focusing on all aspects of imaging management across a range of practice settings.

The CRA is earned by passing a 185-question exam testing knowledge and excellence in the following areas:

  • Human Resource Management (HR)
  • Asset Resource Management (AM)
  • Financial Management (FM)
  • Operations Management (OM)
  • Communication and Information Management (CI)

Candidates must demonstrate knowledge, problem-solving, and analysis skills across the exam.

Exam Test Specifications

The CRA test specifications are determined by periodic role delineation studies (also known as job task analysis studies). These studies validate the knowledge, skills, and responsibilities of radiology administrators and ensure the exam content remains relevant to the field as it evolves.

The Radiology Administrator Certification Commission (RACC) completed a role delineation study in 2025, resulting in a new test specifications document that will take effect in the Fall 2026 test window.
